Changing Direction Here At Ebizreporter

This question has been on my mind for a while: What direction should I take with this blog?

The internet marketing niche has become more and more diluted lately by pseudo-bloggers and new marketers - to the point where talk of common sense and ethical marketing gets lost in the vacuum. I've really, really had enough of it to be honest.

Soon, I'll be changing the focus of this site to be more internet business news oriented rather than talking about internet marketing infoproducts.

Internet marketing and SEO is where my roots are online. I'm just tired of talking about it that's all. It stresses me out, I can't concentrate after taking part in the forums, watching people I once respected jumping on spam software bandwagons is disturbing to me, etc.

My conscience simply will not allow me to be conform to what seems to be normal marketing practices these days.

So I'll be releasing my Content Cash Inferno package in a couple of weeks as promised, and maybe one other blockbuster infoproduct (mentioned below) and that's about it for me. I'll be retiring from the internet marketing scene after that.

I'll still contribute to Terry Crim's new forum, because we share the same mindset about this sort of thing. The industry needs at least one good resource where those few people who are willing to open their minds to doing business with pride can congregate and learn without being inhibited or coerced.

With that said, I'm going to get back to building a brighter future for myself.

The #1 Internet Marketing Event of 2005

Last year the internet marketing world experienced John Reese's $1,000,000 day.

Well folks, there's something coming up in mid June 2005 that will be just as popular, more talked about, and more outrageous by a long shot. Is it possible? Yes. Will it pull in as much cash? Probably not. But hey, it'll be the ultimate internet marketing lesson, and I will be pulling it off.

Will you be there?

Blog Power Review

Well, if I had said it here at the ebizreporter, I'd have been 'called' on naming names and how other marketers are just trying to sell what's hot to make money. But I didn't have to.

Andy Wibbles says it all here.

More Guru's, Less Knowledge

I love the way knowledge spreads, and how traceable the LACK of knowledge is.

Have you ever noticed how people on some of the popular marketing forums ask the most basic questions one week, buy your book the next and then start offering paid mentoring on the subject a few days later?

They advertise their services with hyped sales letters telling how they make $1000's using their secrets?

Hmmm. Oh well. That's business I guess. Time to get out there and make some waves.

Old SEO Geezer Still Got It

Just gloating... one of my sites has a #1 listing for a VERY popular keyword phrase at MSN. Yesterday, traffic for that site hit 18,000 Page Views for the day and Adsense earnings skyrocketed.

While everyone is out there "Testing" their expensive software, I plug away at whats important - building useful, content rich, long lasting 'web real estate'.

Sheesh, now I gotta write another chapter for the new CCI 2.0 and show you how it's done.

Retro Marketing Tactics

I won't go to the extent of researching the numbers, but I did read somewhere a while ago that about 150,000,000 people in english speaking countries who log on to the internet at least once a week. That's a lot of people and a huge potential marketplace.

Most of the people hanging out at the internet marketing forums concentrate on one or two small products that cover a tiny percentage of that marketplace - internet marketing products and services.

Folks, there's a whole other world out there of people who are interested in the same things you are - food, music, clothing, gadgets, software, sports, cigars, video games, bingo, home improvemants, flowers, muscle cars, jewelery, cosmetics, candle making, the list goes on and on...

Many of these 'niches' are woefully under represented online, and with the marketing knowledge you've gained from the forums and ebooks or courses you buy, you would be way ahead of the game if you applied it in those niches.

Go do a search on Google for something obscure like Quill Pens or Ink Wells. Visit the first 10 sites listed and you'll see what I mean. Some of those sites are horrible, but they still make money for the owners. Imagine if you built a nice, well organized site with great content, a streamlined ordering process, a forum to encourage community development, a searchable directory or link exchange system, a blog to showcase your expertise on the subject and build rapport with your 'people'... within 6 months you'd be a dominant player in that niche.

You see, the norm these days is automation, adsense sites, ebooks sold from minisites, etc. Yes, they all work and make lots of money, but because of the shift toward these models, the old fashioned community based sites are new again. Sort of like how bell-bottoms - they're about to come back in style... They're Retro ;-)

The next time you're in one of those upscale stores and see an old style radio, but with a CD player built in, or you're driving along and a new 2006 Mustang styled like the old 1960's ones blows past, think about it. Things make a full circle, and online it doesn't take 30 years.

It's happening right now.

How NOT To Request Reciprocal Links

I get reciprocal link requests all the time and unfortunately, 99% of them are like the one outlined below.

Dear Webmaster,

We have added a link to your site http://www.getblogs.com on our blog at http://theirblogurl.com/links/ and would appreciate it if you placed the following html code on your web site main page:

*Blatent Ad Here*

Our site gets thousands of visitors per month and is considered an authority site in it's field.

We will keep your link on our blog for 14 days. If we find that you have not included the code above on your main page, we will assume you are not interested in reciprocal linking or building your sites link popularity for the search egnines.

First of all, my name is not "Webmaster".

Second of all, their site is a blog, and they have sent an email reciprocal link request to a blog directory. Anyone with a legitimate blog can go to my site, follow the instructions and have their blog listed there.

Thirdly, how could they know their site gets thousands of visitors per month? I did a check in the whois database and the domain was registered about 3 weeks ago! Authority site? I won't even go into it...

Fourth, my link was buried on a hidden links page on their site, not on the blog itself. The only link to that page was a greyed out "Links" link at the bottom corner of a few pages. They wanted me to place their 30 word hard-sell ad om my main page in return?

Fifth, their snide remark that if I didn't link to them, I was not interested in promoting my site didn't go over well.

Obviously, the email they sent was generated by some reciprocal linking software. They didn't even take the time to personalize it properly. The exchange wasn't fair, they lied, etc. etc.

I mean, come on people.... automation of certain aspects of your business is great and all, but there are times when there's no substitute for a good old personal email. Jeez, at least LOOK at the sites your software has mined from Google's listings!

What's In It For Me?

I'm sure you've all heard the old addage "What's in it for me?" It's the foundation most sales letters are based on, and illustrating how a product or service benefits people is paramount.

But, like anything else, it can be taken too literally.

Some people (and there are too many to mention here on this little blog) will have nothing to do with you if you don't give away the farm at their request. These people don't have any belief in respect, friendship, respect, networking, respect, etc.

"Show Me The Money" or you don't deserve my time. That's their motto. The hard-sell is their only comfort, the almighty dollar their fix.

I genuinely feel sorry for these people. Yet I have no desire to associate with them. I'd rather spend the time building wealth through friendship and teaching/learning.

Say "Hello" to me, rather than "Buy Now." Because whenever I can, I buy from people I respect, and respect me in return.

I hope people see me in the same light. I try.

No More Adsense

Adsense works on some sites, but not on others.

You've probably noticed I got rid of the ads at the top of this site. They weren't doing anything but diluting my overall clickthrough rate anyway, so I sacrificed the $1.08 I made in april.

BTW, to those of you who picked up the CCI report via the post below, thanks a million, I'll get the download link set up and send you off an email shortly.
